Every parent or carer who has a child at Lenthall Nursery and Infant School is automatically a member of our 'Friends' charity, FOOLS. The FOOLS Committee organise and support a range of extra-curricular events throughout the year to raise money specifically to provide additional learning and play equipment and facilities for the children of Lenthall Nursery and Infant School. These events have the added benefit of enriching the school year for the children and wider school community.
Any parent or carer is extremely welcome to attend any of our meetings and/ or events at any time throughout the school year and we actively encourage participation. FOOLS are always in need of help before, during and after events and thoroughly appreciate all the time and help (no matter how big or small) offered by the many parents and carers who get involved. Without this help, the events would not be as successful as they are and some would not be possible at all.

The funds raised by FOOLS vary but are usually between £2,500 and £5,000 per annum. In recent years we have tried to focus our efforts on particular annual projects, aligned with the Key Priority Areas identified by the school staff, leaders and governors.
Here we aimed to improve the outdoor spaces at the school to enhance the nurturing, welcoming and playful environment.
To achieve this we installed a lockable external notice board to allow us to communicate better with all children, parents, carers and visitors. We significantly upgraded the playground markings in both the infant and nursery areas, enhanced the KS1 outdoor area with planting and landscaping and the installation of seating, arranged repair of the old climbing wall to become a canvas for a new school mural and facilitated the restoration of the outdoor play equipment and fencing (soon to be completed).
This project is designed to further enhance the school community's engagement with and support of children's reading.
To achieve this we have, so far, run a successful book fair (which also led to the provision of over 100 books for classes and the school library - more than 1 per child!). We also provided appropriate book-based gifts for the children at the school to celebrate Christmas. We arranged donation of stones for all children to participate in the 'Lenthall Literary Stones' project and we further upgraded the playground markings with phonics tiles. Work is ongoing!
This project aims to enhance and expand our Forest School provision for in-school sessions, with the long-term aim of being able offer taster sessions for whole families, and for the children to engage with the wider community through growing and building items (such as bird-boxes) to sell at local produce/ farmers' markets.
We will update this website as we make progress in achieving this goal.
