The Lenthall Way
Working Together to Improve School Attendance
At Lenthall Infant & Nursery School, we understand that strong attendance is built on strong relationships. We believe that the most effective way to improve attendance is by working in partnership with children and families, taking the time to listen, understand and provide support when it is needed.
We recognise that there can be many reasons why attendance becomes difficult. These may include illness, emotional wellbeing, anxiety, special educational needs, family circumstances or significant life events. Rather than focusing solely on percentages, we seek to understand the barriers that may be affecting a child's attendance and work together to find positive solutions.
Our approach is rooted in kindness, compassion and collaboration. We want every child to feel safe, valued and excited about coming to school each day. Through early identification, open communication and tailored support, we aim to remove barriers to attendance before they become bigger concerns.

Our Commitment to Families
When attendance concerns arise, we will:
✅ Listen to children and families with empathy and understanding.
✅ Understand any barriers that may be impacting attendance.
✅ Support families through early intervention and practical strategies.
✅ Work Together to develop solutions and attendance plans where needed.
✅ Celebrate Success by recognising improvements and positive attendance habits.
We know that every family is unique and that support should be personalised to meet individual needs.
The Attendance Journey
At Lenthall, our attendance approach follows a simple pathway:
Listen → Understand → Support → Improve → Thrive
We believe that attendance improves when children feel a sense of:
🌱 Belonging
😊 Wellbeing
🤝 Connection
📚 Achievement
⭐ Success
By working together, we can help every child access the friendships, learning opportunities and experiences that make school life so special
Support Before Sanctions
Our first response will always be to offer support and explore solutions. We aim to identify concerns early and work collaboratively with families to overcome barriers wherever possible.
Support may include:
- Meetings with our Attendance Champion.
- Breakfast Club provision.
- Guardian Angel check-ins.
- Nurture and Positive Play support.
- Early Help involvement.
- SEND support and reasonable adjustments.
- School Nurse referrals.
- Signposting to wider family services.
Where attendance concerns continue despite support, we will follow our Graduated Attendance Response Framework and, where necessary, work with external agencies to ensure every child receives their entitlement to education
Attendance is Everyone's Responsibility
At Lenthall Infant & Nursery School, attendance is not something we do to families—it is something we achieve with families.
Together, we can ensure every child feels happy, secure, included and ready to learn.
"Attendance is everyone's responsibility. Together, we can make every day count."
