Lenthall Infant & Nursery
A Warm Welcome To You All

Rosen - Year 1

Every day is a chance to learn.

Welcome to Rosen Class

Can you guess who our favourite author is?

Our class teacher is Miss. Brown and our class teaching assistant is Mrs. Howell (HLTA)

In year one we work towards the school ‘BE PROUD values.

In the morning we complete phonics, maths, and English using engaging tasks, activities and challenges.

Our P.E days are every Wednesday with coaching from our Qualitas coach Mr. Modest. We also engage in yoga and active learning opportunities throughout the week.

In the afternoon we take part in our Lenthall Learning Challenges. Each half term we introduce a new learning challenge and use a balance of whole-class teaching, collaborative learning opportunities, guided and independent learning activities as well as continuous provision/ enhancements themed around this learning challenge to extend the children’s learning.

Our Learning Challenges for this year are:

  • My Home, My World!
  • A Toy's Story!
  • Dungeons and Dragons!
  • Ship Ahoy!
  • Out of this World!
  • Sunny's Summer!

Reading

Reading continues to be a priority in school. Children will read as part of a focused group 3 times a week. Alongside our phonics teaching, children bring home a decodable (Collins Big Cat) reading book, matched to the phonemes they are learning, and a 'Love to Read' book to share with an adult. Phonics packs and support at-home cards are shared with parents at the beginning of the year and through Seesaw.

We encourage you to read daily with your child to help build up their reading skills. When you have read with your child you can write about it in their reading record and then on their book change day, we will send a new book home.

Homework

As part of our homework policy, we ask parents to focus on supporting their children with reading and phonics. Phonics packs and support at-home cards are shared with parents at the beginning of the year and through Seesaw.

Throughout the term, we may also send out activities for maths, spelling, and handwriting if we feel there is an area of learning that will benefit from further practise. There is also a creative piece of homework based on each term’s learning challenge. All creative projects are shared and displayed as part of the learning undertaken in class.
