Nursery Provision at Lenthall

At Lenthall Infant and Nursery School, we have high aspirations for every child. We carefully plan learning experiences based on each child’s unique stage of development, ensuring they are supported to flourish and thrive. As children reach their milestones and celebrate their achievements, they also grow in independence, resilience, and confidence.

On this page, you’ll find everything you need to know about our Early Years classes, learning environments, wraparound care, and more. To arrange a personal tour of our nursery, please contact our school office—we’d love to welcome you.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), which spans from birth to age 5, is a vital part of our whole school curriculum. We offer:

  • A brand-new 2-Year-Old Room for our pre-nursery children, developed with a £150,000 DfE grant,
  • A dedicated 3-Year-Old Nursery Room for our FS1 children (Carle Class), and a vibrant Reception Room for our FS2 children (Donaldson Class)—all within our integrated Early Years Unit.

2-Year-Old Provision (Governor Run)

Our toddler room, Bright Beginnings, is a warm and welcoming space led by Miss Cooper and Miss Turner. Here, our youngest learners begin their journey in a nurturing environment designed to support early development through play, exploration, and gentle routines.

Early Years Unit (Maintained Nursery & Reception)

Our Early Years Unit is a vibrant, nurturing space where children’s natural curiosity is celebrated and encouraged. Through a carefully planned environment and a child-centred approach, we support children in developing strong foundations in communication, literacy, numeracy, and social skills.

Children are free to explore at their own pace, both indoors and outdoors, through well-resourced continuous provision areas that inspire imagination, independence, and a love of learning. Our team skilfully balances child-led discovery with adult-guided experiences, helping every child grow in confidence and capability.

The unit is split into two classes:

  • Carle Class (Nursery FS1, ages 3–4) – Led by Miss Purkis.
  • Donaldson Class (Reception FS2, ages 4–5) – Led by Mrs Bayliss, our Early Years Lead.

Each class is named to reflect our love of reading and storytelling, with a special focus on celebrated children’s authors.

What’s on Offer?

We follow a curiosity-led approach that, through both thoughtful practice and an enabling environment, actively encourages children to use their imagination, ask questions, and explore the world around them. This helps foster a deep love of learning and supports their natural desire to discover.

Some of the fantastic resources and activities on offer include:

  • Small world play: From under the sea to outer space, children explore miniature environments and create their own stories.
  • Role play: Kitchens, costumes, and dolls help children make sense of the world around them.
  • STEM activities: Sand and water play, puzzles, and construction toys nurture problem-solving and a love of learning.
  • Creative arts: Painting, play dough, and collage activities support sensory exploration and self-expression.
  • Forest School: Outdoor adventures like den-building and scavenger hunts help children connect with nature and build confidence.

What to Bring Each Day

Here’s a handy checklist to help you prepare for nursery:

  • bottle of water
  • packed lunch (if not having a school meal)
  • change of clothes
  • Nappies and wipes (if applicable)

Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. In warmer months, we ask that children arrive wearing sun cream and a sun hat.
